The Thessalonian church experienced two unique things that made clarity on the gospel and leadership essential. They were young and had a short amount of time with their founding pastor and they were under much persecution from the very beginning. It is for these reasons our verses paint a clear picture how a leader connects to the gospel and connects others to the gospel. Paul shows us that true leaders are cross-preaching and cross-shaped in their ways of doing ministry. (1 Th 2:1-10)

Christ, Cross, and No Compromise

- 1 Kings 18:20-40
Independent Sermons
Delivered on: 9 August 2020
In every season of the church, there is a tendency to consider the need to co-opt and co-exist with the various views and ideologies in the world that are not based on Christ. The tendency is to consider making Christ effective by synthesizing His covenant things with culture's views, values and practices. In our passage we come to know that we need nothing other than God's gracious things that are connected to Christ to move forward. (1 Ki 18:20-40)

Do Not Make Corona World a Justifier
It seems that in this season, self-righteousness has been given a new stage to play itself out on. People feel righteous based on how fearful they are and others feel righteous due to how courageous they are. People feel righteous due to how faithful they are to the guidelines and also others as to how indifferent they are to them. We, as the people of God, must always remember that our righteousness is outside of us in the Jesus story (Romans 3:3-6).
